The San Diego
Concert Band, an all-volunteer community band, invites musicians
of all ability levels to join its quality performing group. If
you have band experience, we may have a place for you. Celebrating
30 years of entertaining San Diego residents, this band has an
exciting schedule of concerts planned every year. Annual spring
and winter concerts are performed currently at the Ray and Joan
Kroc Corps Community Center, and a summer series of "concerts
in the park" are performed at La Mesa's Harry Griffen Park
and Balboa Park. The band frequently features solos, full sections
and small ensembles. A wide range of music is performed, from showtunes,
movie scores and marches to concert pieces for symphonic band.
The San Diego Concert Band membership is open to anyone over
18 years of age, based on instrumentation needs. There are
no formal
performance auditions for new members. However, new members will
be assessed by the section principal for placement within the
section. Understanding the commitment of young adults to their
education,
the Band does not typically accept persons less than 18 years
of age, except during the summer season. (On the recommendation
of
their band directors and agreement with the conductor and section
principal, high school musicians may participate during the summer
season or year-round.)
The Band's membership consists of amateurs, music educators, and professional musicians ranging in age from “18 to 80” and beyond. Today, the Band includes approximately 100 musicians, who
rehearse once each week and perform two formal concerts, at Kroc
Center, and a variety of "in the park" style concerts
during the summer season.
